One day a man was feeling sorry for himself, and decided to get into a debate with God. He made up a list of all the things that were wrong with his life, and all the excuses he had for not serving Him with all his heart, soul, mind, and strength.
Funny thing is, getting into a debate with God is not such a great idea. Here’s how it went:
He said, “It’s impossible for me to live for You.”
God said, “All things are possible.” (Luke 18:27)
He said, “I’m too tired to follow You.”
God said, “I will give you rest.” (Mt 11:28-30)
He said, “Nobody really loves me.”
God said, “I love you.” (Jn 3:16)
He said, “I can’t go on facing each day.”
God said, “My grace is sufficient.”(2 Cor 12:19)
He said, “I can’t figure things out.”
God said, “I will direct your steps.” (Prov 20:24)
He said, “I can’t do it.”
God said, “I can do all things.” (Phil 4:13)
He said, “I’m not able.”
God said, “I am able.” (2 Cor 9:8)
He said, “It’s not worth it.”
God said, “It will be worth it.” (Rom. 8:28)
He said, “I can’t forgive myself.”
God said, “I forgive you.” (1 Jn 1:9 & Rom 8:1)
He said, “I can’t manage.”
God said, “I will supply all your needs.” (Phil 4:19)
He said, “I’m afraid.”
God said, “I have not given you a spirit of fear.” (2 Tim 1:7)
He said, “I’m always worried and frustrated.”
God said, “Cast all your cares on me.” (1 Pet 5:7)
He said, “I don’t have enough faith.”
God said, “I’ve given everyone a measure of faith.” (Rom 12:8)
He said, “I’m not smart enough.”
God said, “I give you wisdom.” (1 Cor 1:30)
He said, “I feel all alone.”
God said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” (Heb 13:5)
As you can tell, the man lost the argument, but he gained a whole new perspective! I guess sometimes when you lose, you really do win.
