Watch the following discussion-starter video. It’ll set the topic of discussion for the group.
Read, Re-read, Re-tell: 1 Corinthians 12:8,10 “For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit:….to another the discerning of spirits”
Like all the supernatural gifts, the gifts of revelation are potentially available to every Spirit-filled believer. In times of decision, urgent need, or crisis, each of us should call on the Lord to grant us supernatural wisdom, knowledge, or discerning of spirits as the occasion requires.
Unpacking Questions:
- Describe a time when you needed direction or insight from God. How did God reveal that to you?
- In what ways does God impart revelation to us?
- What do you believe to be the difference between a word of wisdom and a word of knowledge?
Supernatural Knowledge (word of knowledge) is a portion of divine information or facts for a particular need.
Supernatural Wisdom (word of wisdom) is a portion of divine insight, judgement, or guidance for a particular need.
Discerning of Spirits is the supernatural gift of perceiving the spiritual motivations for an action, or what type of spirit is at work.

- What was the outcome of their faith and obedience to the Spirit?

The three gifts we have discussed are closely related, and there can be some overlapping of them. One person may interpret a certain instance as the manifestation of one of the gifts while another person may consider it to be a different gift. Regardless of our precise classification, we can all recognize it as the work of the Holy Spirit.
