Unstoppable Hunger
Pray
Pray together for the group meeting, and any pressing needs within the group.
If any groups attendees have kids that need a wholesome distraction during the discussion here is a YouTube channel with many great Pentecostal videos for kids.
Review
Each week you’ll spend some time reviewing the previous week’s lesson. Did anything happen last week that brought the lesson to mind, and what did you learn from it?
Watch
Watch the following discussion-starter video. It’ll set the topic of discussion for the group.
Read: Acts 17:10-14
- One person will first read the scripture selection in the King James Version.
- Next, another person will read the same passages in a modern language or amplified version for more clarity such as the New Living Translation (NLT), Message Bible (MSG), New English Translation (NET), Amplified Bible (AMP), etc. We recommend using the YouVersion Bible app.
Retell
- One person will begin retelling the scripture passage in their own words (a new person to start each week is great!) Then…
- As a group, work together to fill in gaps and build the story. This will help us internalize and own it. Be sure everyone participates.
Discuss
Together, share around the group how the topic and scripture setting applies to your life personally. Here are some thoughts to consider for discussion… don’t let the discussion stop here, though… what questions can you ask that will help uncover God’s message?
Going to Berea
- Where did Paul and Silas go to and from where?
- Was this a planned trip? Why not?
- Where did Paul and Silas go when they got there?
- Did Paul and Silas give up or delay after Thessalonica?
- If you try something and it doesn’t go well are you better off walking away or trying again? Why or why not?
The thoughtful response
- How were the people of Berea more honorable then those in Thessalonica?
- What is the difference between accepting on blind faith and researching scripture?
- Why would honestly searching the scriptures be honorable?
- Everyone answer – what is your favorite scripture and why?
- Whose responsibility is it to search the scriptures and learn what they say?
What should our response be to new information?
- Why is it good to not hesitate when there is something holy or godly to do?
- What was the impact of Paul and Silas moving on to Berea immediately? How did this impact the people of Berea?
- What was the impact of the people of Berea searching the scripture?
- Why would Silas and Timotheus stay in Berea?
- How could things have gone differently if the people of Berea had not been willing to receive?
- How can we be ready and quick to respond to God’s direction?
Who should we invest time in: doubters or thinkers?
- Seeing the example of Paul and Silas: should we invest time in people that reject or in people that receive? How can we be quickly to tell the difference?
- How can I invest in people who readily receive the gospel?
- How could hesitancy lead me astray when there is a good and right thing to be done?
- How can I build a habit of being immediate in doing good things.?
- If you have not repented of your sins and been baptized in Jesus name – how urgent is the need?
