Unstoppable Revelation
Pray
Pray together for the group meeting, and any pressing needs within the group.
If any groups attendees have kids that need a wholesome distraction during the discussion here is a YouTube channel with many great Pentecostal videos for kids.
Review
Each week you’ll spend some time reviewing the previous week’s lesson. Did anything happen last week that brought the lesson to mind, and what did you learn from it?
Watch
Watch the following discussion-starter video. It’ll set the topic of discussion for the group.
Read: Acts 17:16-23
- One person will first read the scripture selection in the King James Version.
- Next, another person will read the same passages in a modern language or amplified version for more clarity such as the New Living Translation (NLT), Message Bible (MSG), New English Translation (NET), Amplified Bible (AMP), etc. We recommend using the YouVersion Bible app.
Retell
- One person will begin retelling the scripture passage in their own words (a new person to start each week is great!) Then…
- As a group, work together to fill in gaps and build the story. This will help us internalize and own it. Be sure everyone participates.
Discuss
Together, share around the group how the topic and scripture setting applies to your life personally. Here are some thoughts to consider for discussion… don’t let the discussion stop here, though… what questions can you ask that will help uncover God’s message?
Paul was moved seeing the city as idol worshipers
- Why was Paul in Athens?
- What did Paul see in Athens and how did he react?
- What does it mean that the city of Athens was “given to idolatry”?
- What are examples of idolatry in the world we live in today?
Daily appealed to them in synagogue and marketplace
- What did Paul do to help the people of Athens learn the gospel?
- Where did Paul speak, how often, and with whom?
- What message did Paul speak to the people?
“What is this new doctrine you speak?”
- How did the people react when they heard Paul’s message?
- Why did the people believe Paul was preaching a “strange”, “new” doctrine?
- Why were the people interested in hearing Paul’s message?
- Where did the people bring Paul to preach his message?
Paul commends their zeal and proclaims that the “unknown God” is Jesus
- Why did Paul say the people were “superstitious” or “religious”?
- What did Paul declare unto the people?
- What “revelation” was contained in Paul’s message?
- How was this revelation different from what the people believed?
Application to Daily Life
- What is the difference between hearing the truth and receiving a revelation?
- Where does a revelation come from? What are the key elements of a revelation?
- How can a person prepare themselves to be ready to receive a revelation from God?
- What approach can you use to witness to someone who believes in a false doctrine?
