Unstoppable Deliverance
Pray
Pray together for the group meeting, and any pressing needs within the group.
Review
Each week you’ll spend some time reviewing the previous week’s lesson. Did anything happen last week that brought the lesson to mind, and what did you learn from it?
Watch
Watch the following discussion-starter video. It’ll set the topic of discussion for the group.
Read: Acts 12:1-11
- One person will first read the scripture selection in the King James Version.
- Next, another person will read the same passages in a modern language or amplified version for more clarity such as the New Living Translation (NLT), Message Bible (MSG), New English Translation (NET), Amplified Bible (AMP), etc. We recommend using the YouVersion Bible app.
Retell
- One person will begin retelling the scripture passage in their own words (a new person to start each week is great!) Then…
- As a group, work together to fill in gaps and build the story. This will help us internalize and own it. Be sure everyone participates.
Discuss
Together, share around the group how the topic and scripture setting applies to your life personally. Here are some thoughts to consider for discussion… don’t let the discussion stop here, though… what questions can you ask that will help uncover God’s message?
The Capture
- Why was Peter arrested?
- What was significant about arresting Peter after the Jews were so approving of James’ death?
- What special events were happening during Peter’s arrest?
- How many soldiers were required to guard Peter after he was arrested?
- How secure was the prison where Peter was?
- Why was so much security needed to imprison one man?
- Let’s take a moment and answer a question posed in our video script. “If you were arrested and accused of being a Christian, what would be the evidence against you?”
The Rescue
- How easy do you think it would have been for Peter to escape by his own power?
- What might have been the spiritual significance of Peter getting fully dressed before following the angel out of the prison?
- What did Peter think was happening when he first encountered the angel of the Lord in the prison?
- When did Peter fully realize he had been rescued by the angel of the Lord?
Faith in Action
- Why do you think Peter allowed himself to be arrested without any evidence of struggle?
- How did the church respond to Peter’s arrest?
- What role did the church play in Peter’s deliverance?
- How does who we connect with determine the course of our lives?
Unstoppable Faith for Unstoppable Deliverance
- What keeps our faith strong in the face of persecution?
- Describe a situation in which you have witnessed the supernatural deliverance of God.
- What is our responsibility as the church toward those who need deliverance?
- Describe a time when you knew your deliverance happened because someone else interceded on your behalf.
