Go Fish Devotional - Week 10
Fish Finders and Boat Sonar; the attitude of a disciple makerDay 3: “Here I am,” or “There You Are?”
What are your first thoughts as you walk into a room full of people? Do you think, “here I am,” or “there you are?” Naturally, we enter into a place and think we are filling that room with our wonderful presence, when in reality we should walk into a room and pray two prayers:
- “There you are:” Lord, lead me to who is either in need or you want me to disciple. Give me the gifts of understanding, knowledge and wisdom when I speak with the.
- God, let them not see me, but see you, your Holy Ghost, your power when I interact with them.
Final Thoughts
The heart of disciple making is selflessness, not selfishness. It is never about us, and always about them. Selflessness should permeate deep into our spiritual DNA and attitude. We should present ourselves in a room and to others as more interested in them than interested in ourselves. In our selfless attitude we should also have compassion and have good listening skills.
Biblical Devotion
John 3:30-34 He must increase, but I must decrease.” (31) He who comes from above is above all. He who is of the earth belongs to the earth and speaks in an earthly way. He who comes from heaven is above all. (32) He bears witness to what he has seen and heard, yet no one receives his testimony. (33) Whoever receives his testimony sets his seal to this, that God is true. (34) For he whom God has sent utters the words of God, for he gives the Spirit without measure.
Colossians 3:11-16 Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all. (12) Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, (13) bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. (14) And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. (15) And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. (16) Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Isaiah 49:8-13 Thus says the LORD: “In a time of favor I have answered you; in a day of salvation I have helped you; I will keep you and give you as a covenant to the people, to establish the land, to apportion the desolate heritages, (9) saying to the prisoners, ‘Come out,’ to those who are in darkness, ‘Appear.’ They shall feed along the ways; on all bare heights shall be their pasture; (10) they shall not hunger or thirst, neither scorching wind nor sun shall strike them, for he who has pity on them will lead them, and by springs of water will guide them. (11) And I will make all my mountains a road, and my highways shall be raised up. (12) Behold, these shall come from afar, and behold, these from the north and from the west, and these from the land of Syene.” (13) Sing for joy, O heavens, and exult, O earth; break forth, O mountains, into singing! For the LORD has comforted his people and will have compassion on his afflicted.
James 1:19-25 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; (20) for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. (21) Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. (22) But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. (23) For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. (24) For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. (25) But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.
Luke 11:28 But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”
